Just a short drive from Maui’s International Airport (OGG), Pā’ia Town is home to an eclectic blend of local surfers, tourists, artists, celebrities and long-time residents. This quaint surf town is often tabbed as the “epicenter of windsurfing”! There are many boutiques for shopping and a number of local restaurants serving up island specialties. You won’t find massive hotels in Pā’ia…On our last trip to Maui, we planned a stopover at the hip boutique Paia Inn.

We arrived a bit late in the evening and the staff was very accommodating to make arrangements for our arrival. After 10pm, you’ll need to contact the after hours number to have someone meet you there. Pā’ia nightlife is like any small town. Some nights they roll the streets up early… You can make your way over to Rock’N’Brews (owned by a partnership that includes Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS fame) for a beverage and snack or to Charley’s that is frequented by Willie Nelson.   On our arrival night, Owen Wilson strolled in to Rock’N’Brews with some friends.  It’s a very laid back destination where people from all walks of life just show up!

For early risers, you’ll see a multitude of bikers up and ready for a scenic ride. And several surfers gathering their boards and paddles to ready for the coming waves!

Speaking of waves, if you are staying at the Paia Inn, you’ll weave your way to the beach and exit here:

The exit is to the far right from this angle. You might say, where is that view?

Now that’s better! The Paia Bay Beach is perfect! Where are the crowds? This beach only gets populated if the surf is really rolling. But the views are all yours!

Downtown is quaint. And hip. Like going back in time a bit…..

And a world away from the hustle and bustle.

Just outside of town, you’ll see why the Paia area is so popular for water sports…

Is there a better way to see the sunrise than on a board?

Pā’ia Town is the last place to stock up if you are driving The Road to Hana. Make sure you gas up and grab a Road To Hana audio guide while in town! Or you could just book a stay at the Paia Inn. And we can certainly help you do that!
